The Rise of the Charging Station!

The Nissan Leaf  has allowed many environmentally friendly people, and corporations to finally take a very meaningful step towards reducing their carbon footprint. This all electric powerhouse carries a very comfortable price of around $25,000 (after applicable rebates and incentives), and an impressive 100 mile range.  Being the only mass produced all electric car, demand for the Leaf is far larger than their availability. Nissan is quickly approaching completion of its production facility in Tennessee.  This will allow a massive increase in availability for the Nissan Leaf.  Also, many forward thinking companies are looking to placing charging stations at their store locations as a way to increase the charging infrastructure and bringing in business.  This article by Omar Rana with egmCarTech.com posted on October, 10th 2010 hints at some of the companies that are exploring these options. One of the companies that has taken this to the next level is Google! In this blog post   in the Google Green Blog, it shows their dedication to progressive thinking. Here is the video.

Most of the case studies and test programs are occurring in the South West, and West Coast areas, but there are many promising signs that this is in no way a passing fad.  Minnesota is already seeing EV Charging stations springing up. Here is a link for EV News in Minnesota.  What is your take on electric cars an the need for charging station infrastructure?
